West Riding FA staff trained in Antisemitism in Football
West Riding FA are delighted to have completed full staff training on the issue of Antisemitism in Football for the years 2023 - 2026, delivered by Maccabi GB's 'Tackling Antisemitism in Sport' project, in partnership with the Office of HM Government's Independent Advisor on Antisemitism.
Amidst an alarming increase in the number of anti-semitic incidents across the UK, this education is crucial for County FAs to provide awareness around the issue, and to provide the expertise to identify an incident of antisemitism in grassroots football.
West Riding FA Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Lead, Ashraf Wallace, said:
“At West Riding FA, we recognise the importance of education in tackling discrimination in all its forms. Completing this training on antisemitism is a significant step in ensuring our staff are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to address this issue and create a more inclusive environment across grassroots football.
"We are proud to partner with Maccabi GB and support their vital work in tackling antisemitism in sport. This training reinforces our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and we will continue to strive for a game where everyone feels welcome and respected.”
Ben Sweiry, Tackling Antisemitism in Sport, Project Manager, added:
“We are delighted that West Riding County FA have completed the training workshop on Antisemitism in football. Providing all County FA staff with training on this issue is a top priority for us in a time of rising antisemitic incidents occurring across the UK, including within grassroots and professional football."
Maccabi GB have produced a 'Guide to the Jewish Community in Football', in partnership with The FA's EDI team, to provide essential information around the British Jewish community around grassroots and professional football.
The guide can be found here and features in The FA's 2024/25 EDI Calendar.
