Safeguarding in the Digital World

In today’s world, safeguarding children and young people is just as vital online as it is in face-to-face interactions.

As the governing body of the game, The FA has a duty to provide guidance and support to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all involved in football, regardless of their role.

This responsibility extends to the use of digital platforms within the football community, including websites, email, mobile messaging, and social media channels such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X (Twitter).

While these technologies offer significant benefits—making it easier for teams and clubs to communicate important details such as training times, fixtures, and match venues—it is crucial to acknowledge the potential risks they pose, particularly to children and young people.

Football takes these risks extremely seriously, which is why a series of guidance notes have been developed to help mitigate them.

Everyone involved in the game must make informed decisions when using digital communication platforms, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people remains the highest priority.
